We get so many great questions from Ontario travelers and one in particular has just kept coming up: “Where are the best places in Ontario to take your pet on vacation with you?”. Here’s just a few of our picks. Add your own suggestions and favourites in the comments section!
Deerhurst Resort – Huntsville, Ontario
Dogs and cats are welcome at Deerhurst Resort, where new pet friendly accommodations mean that you can bring the whole family on vacation. Deerhurst also has designated areas for pets to enjoy the outdoors along with you. Another neat option? The nearby Happy Tails, a pet boarding resort in Huntsville, is a cage-free resort.

Dogs love the fresh air just as much as we do and in light of this many Ontario Parks allow dogs to join the camping fun. A number of parks offer special pet exercise areas, including favourites like Killbear, Bon Echo and The Pinery. If you have been meaning to camp in Ontario’s beautiful northern regions, Martin River Provincial Park features interior campsites on the lake where your dog can run and swim to their heart’s content.
The motto at Woodhaven Country Lodge says it all: “If your dogs sleep on your bed at home then they can sleep on your bed at Woodhaven”. Woodhaven has been operating since 1993 and there’s plenty for pets and their families to enjoy on this beautiful lake, including walks through the woods, swims in the lake in summer, skating in the winter and much more.
The history, culture and scenery of Elora, Ontario is one of the gems of the province and you don’t have to leave your pet at home to enjoy this town. Paws in Elora offers a pet friendly suite right in the heart of Elora. Enjoy a stroll to the Elora Gorge or through the town with your pup. Thanks for this article. I love travelling with my dog! I just added a short summary list on my website of travelling with dogs in Northern Ontario. Check it out at: http://cstravelsandpics.ca/2013/07/18/dogs-and-northern-ontario/
Great post Ontario Travel. I think traveling with man’s best friend can be a challenge at times. I know that not all provincial park agencies across Canada allow dogs so it’s kinda cool that Ontario Parks goes one better and even offers special dog-friendly exercise areas in some of its parks.
