A Look Back at Winter

It’s been a great winter, with the chance to do lots of activities. As the weather starts to get warmer I thought that I’d take a look back at some of my winter highlights.

I did a lot of skiing this season at a number of resorts across Ontario, but one of the best ski days was when I brought Tara from the morning show with Jamie and Tara on Chay 93.1 in Barrie skiing for the first time. She had never been skiing, but she’d also never been on a ski lift. After a few runs down the beginner hill at Snow Valley she caught on pretty quickly.

I don’t have a picture of what happened next, but let’s just say getting off the lift didn’t go as planned. We got Tara on the ski lift…all was going well on the way up, but as we all tried to get off at the same time Tara turned her ski’s in my direction, and as she fell I was also taken out and was laying in the snow at the top of the hill. It was great to introduce someone to skiing, but I think next time I’ll take the ski lift on my own…LOL….

A tradition at the Georgina ROC is the annual Cardboard Toboggan races. Both my boys Kyle and Dylan really wanted to enter into this year’s competition, so I picked up a couple of cardboard boxes and asked them what they wanted to build. They both really wanted the toboggan to be Perry the Platypus.
(For those of you that don’t have children, Perry is a character in the Disney show called Phineas and Ferb). After 7 hours of cutting, taping, gluing and taping some more we had our toboggan.

It may have looked pretty cool, but it didn’t go as fast as we’d hoped. The most important thing is that we had a blast making it, and the kids had a great time going down the hill. I should probably start making next years now!

My last highlight for this winter was the chance to go Ice Fishing.  This year was the first time in about 6 years that I got out on Lake Simcoe for a day with some friends.  It was an awesome day with a TON of laughs…and we even caught some fish.  My blackberry died just before we caught the fish so I don’t have a picture…this is why I only have a photo of the hole inside the hut.  If you’ve never gone Ice Fishing I recommend it for sure…it’s a lot of fun to get together for the day on the lake and experience it with family and friends.

As we now celebrate spring it’s great to look back at winter. Yes it was REALLY cold, and we had a lot of snow, but I also had the chance to have a lot of FUN. Now it’s time to start planning some cool adventures for Spring and Summer.
