Long white sandy shorelines, fresh water and great swimming – one of Ontario’s best kept secrets are its beautiful beaches. We asked our Facebook fans to recommend their picks for best beaches in Ontario. This list of fan favourites will have you beach ready.

Ontarians and Ontarians at heart love these beaches and come back year after year to make the most of warm Canadian summers.

Sauble Beach – Lake Huron, Ontario

The longest freshwater beach in the world was also one of the most popular in our poll! Sauble Beach was originally named by the French explorers for the sandy sable river that empties into Lake Huron. This beach gets some of the best sunsets you’ll see, so make sure you bring your camera to document every stunning moment. Ron F. told us, “I have to say, I’ve been going to Sauble Beach since I was 4 years old with my parents, and now I am 55 yrs young. You really cannot beat the Beach at Sauble. Just saying”

Wasaga Beach – Georgian Bay, Ontario

Vijay K’s recommendation speaks for itself: “Sand … sand…sand”. You can find good times and great swimming on this 14-kilometre sandy beach on Lake Huron’s Georgian Bay.  Spend some time on the main beach playing volleyball, enjoy a drink on a patio or catch some down time on the sand dune or pine-oak forest trails.

Sandbanks – Lake Ontario, Ontario

Giant sand dunes and beautiful golden beaches form two of the world’s largest freshwater bay-mouth sandbars at Lake Ontario’s Sandbanks Provincial Park. If you are looking for a little excitement, the great waves at Sandbanks make this a good place to give windsurfing or sailing a try. Brandon C. told us “…the dunes never cease to amaze me.”

The Hidden Gems

These beaches are Ontario hidden gems – local favourites among fans, and tucked away in unspoilt landscapes.

Tobermory – Georgian Bay, Ontario

Danielle G’s description of this beach speaks for itself: “The white rocks meet the serene blue of the waters that lap its shores, and it’s hard to see where the skyline and water converge … it always feels like we are on the edge of heaven there.” A mix of rocky grottoes and sandy pockets, this is the perfect beach experience for those who love to explore the outdoors. An added bonus: These waters are also home to some beautiful shipwrecks, making snorkeling and scuba-diving a favourite here.

Pinery Provincial Park – Lake Huron, Ontario

If you enjoy having the beach to yourself, this less known Ontario favourite is for you. Margaret O. describes it like this: “Miles and miles of sandy shores, pristine waters, natural, beautiful soaring sand dunes, and great waves without the crowds.” The Pinery also has something special for Eco tourists: It’s home to much of the remaining Oak Savanna woodland found in North America.

Rock Island – Lake Superior, Ontario

The largest of the Great Lakes is Lake Superior, generally considered the largest freshwater lake in the world by surface area. Along its rugged wilderness shoreline you’ll find some of the world’s most unspoilt beaches.  From Agawa Bay to Pancake Bay, fans told us these beaches are well worth the trip. If you want to spend some time enjoying all Lake Superior has to offer, check out the beach on Rock Island. Enjoy miles of beach, and accommodation right by the water.
